What Brands are Telling Me

This is usually the slowest time of the year for me, but 2026 is off to a surprisingly busy start.

I just wrapped a two week commercial shoot, I'll be giving a TED Talk in Florida later this month, and then my February has been booked up with a brand deal I'll film in my home studio.

What Brands are Telling Me

Not to get too into the anti-AI debate, but I can personally report that every brand I'm currently speaking to is demanding that behind-the-scenes clips be integrated into all video content.

There was a backlash to Coca-Cola's AI-generated holiday ad, so I think a lot of companies are leaning into being 'obviously not AI'.

Porsche is a good example. They released a holiday ad that celebrated being 'handcrafted by artists' and they've been partnering with artists for their social content (disclosure: they're one of the brands I've spoken to).

What Does this Mean?

We'll increasingly want/need proof that what we're seeing was intentionally made by a real person - art and artist included.

At the top of this post is a fun VFX trick I made while flying recently. There was a time when a video like this was solely 'the post', but now it's the first half of the story.

The one-two punch is the editing trick that proves I'm an expert followed by a behind-the-scenes clip more meant for sharing on social media.
