The Creative Development of a Video
This week, I posted a new space-themed collaboration with The Lego Group. Here's a quick breakdown of my creative development from idea to final video:
Idea
The initial spark was that my hand would drop LEGO bricks, they would magically bounce around (through stop-motion animation), and then build themselves into a model.
Theme
I liked the idea of using this technique for three separate builds on different colored backgrounds. With a space theme in mind, this turned into using a 3-in-1 set as the featured builds.
Set Decoration
To enhance the theme, I decided to add more space-themed sets rather than simply having the builds on a flat background.
Making it Physical
My first thought was to have a zero-gravity baseplate with animated bricks forming the builds (first image), however this felt a bit flat and took up too much of the frame. I continued to refine the framing and lighting.
Production
The initial idea of having the bricks 'bounce' and build didn't feel very space-like, so I adapted a floating concept I had explored a few years ago into morphing between the builds.
