You Have a Network, Not an Audience
Back in March, I tweeted that it would be neat to animate stop-motion at a live event. I even made up this mock image:
Throughout the next month, I continued to share how I was slowly accumulating the appropriate gear (tweet thread here):
My only intention was to share a cool (hopefully doable in the future) idea.
What caught me off guard was that my creative network sprang into action and helped make it a reality. Very quickly, a contact here in Toronto helped me set up my first event - a creator marketing summit hosted by #Paid:
Once I had that proof of concept, a good creator friend of mine reached out to work a second event - a creator meetup hosted by the 24mm Collective here in Toronto:
Conclusion
Saying you have a social media 'following' or 'audience' is a very limiting mindset. As I've learned through this experience, you have a network. And every member has the potential to help you take the next step in your creative endeavors.
So why not build in public? Talk about your goals and help others achieve theirs when you can.
