This Video Will Be a Hit

I typically stick to reflecting on past videos, but today I'm going to make a bold prediction that what I'm currently working on will be a hit. I'm locking in this prediction as a way to put my money where my mouth is before the video is even made.

I previously wrote about a simple formula for shareability (the dinner table test): did you see that video where [blank] does [blank]? This is one of those awesome ideas that neatly fits into that formula.

Family and friends have been asking what I'm working on and I've used the opportunity to pitch this video. The good news: everyone has been able to 'see' and get excited about the idea from my one sentence description.

👉 So what's next? A good idea is one thing, but it needs to be smartly executed. Here's what's top of mind for me as I begin producing this video:

• Make the first few seconds captivating. I'm purposely adding some visual aggression and camera movement to the start of the video so that it immediately grabs attention.

• Make it a quick meal. I'm aiming for a 30-45 second runtime - long enough to be a fully realized piece of art (and not just a test) while also short enough to be easily shareable (no risk in wasting someone's time).

• Push the technique to the extreme. I have a tendency to play things safe for the sake of visual clarity. Not today. With every creative and technical decision of this video, I'm choosing the more extreme option (note the 10mm pancake lens).
