My TEDx Talk About Creative Storytelling
I'm honestly a bit scared to share this. It's my first ever talk. I blindly approved it being posted on YouTube because I couldn't handle watching myself speak.
But! I'm super proud. Giving a TEDx talk is nerve-racking (especially for an introvert) yet I somehow managed to pull it off without falling on my face.
Special thanks to TEDx New River for inviting me!
Here's my talk about telling creative, 5-second stories:
Things I Learned as a First Time Speaker
You need to over perform: I watched a tiny bit of my talk and feel I come across a bit boring. On stage, I felt like I had a bit of pep in my step but I don't think that reads on camera. Next time, I'd take my energy past where I think it should be.
Memorize: with a lack of experience, it felt a bit dizzying walking on stage and seeing an audience. A little bit out-of-body. What saved me was having my talk deeply memorized and kicking into verbal autopilot. It helped me push through that 'oh no' feeling.
Speakers get a dedicated monitor with notes: this must be common knowledge to regular speakers, but it was news to me! In my typical out-of-the-box thinking, I snuck keywords into the corners of my slides - I wanted a safety net in case I blanked. But had I known, I would've prepared notes.
