Incremental Progress (pt. 2)

🚨 New series alert! It was just over a year ago when I first mentioned making incremental progress.

A lot of my value with writing about social media is that I'm a full-time content creator, and that means I can share how I'm constantly improving (however small).

This week, I want to highlight a change I've made to the way I'm filming myself speaking to camera:

In the old version:

  • Filmed at a distance, using a 50mm lens

  • Computer is closed off

  • Small hand gestures

In the new version:

  • Filmed very close, using a 16mm lens

  • Computer is opened up

  • Larger hand gestures (helped by camera being closer)

Inviting Viewers In

My longer YouTube videos focus on bringing viewers into my production process - and how I film myself should reflect that.

I want people to feel like they've been invited into my workspace, almost as if they're sitting beside me for a private editing session.

And my previous framing didn't do that! It's flat and closed off. The new framing is much better and feels more intimate.

So never stop improving! I've been making YouTube videos for over 10 years and I'm still obsessing over small details.
