Why I Make Videos Alone
With AI's sudden rise, there's been a lot of discussion about how important 'narrative' is to artists and businesses online. Simply put, what's the story behind your content?
For example, Wendy's has notoriously leaned into sounding like a snarky social media manager gone rogue from corporate headquarters.
Given that my content is all about realistic magical effects and tedious stop-motion animation, I've specifically chosen to present a narrative of:
a wizard casually filming himself on his phone, and
the world's most patient man, isolated in a basement
Both focus on me being alone.
My editing effects feel more surprising when it looks like I've simply set up a phone in my living room (see video above). And my stop-motion feels even more incredible when it's revealed I've spent weeks moving everything with my own two hands.
That's why I film alone. Something as simple as a moving camera would suggest the presence of a second person and break my narrative.
✨ What's your online narrative? Does every element of your work back it up? If you've never considered it, think about how you can bring your unique experience to the forefront of your online content.
Sidenote: I also run my company as lean as possible (zero team) to stay agile during downturns in work and the ad space.
