Let's create a video series (pt. 3)

If you're not up to speed, part 1 introduced a new video series and part 2 analyzed improved retention rates.

What I made

Keeping the theme of casual magical effects going, I made a video where I show how simple it is to multiply objects.

Again, I presented the effect in response to a comment to give it a more candid vibe. I even leaned into slightly terrible sound by filming outside.

A funny thing happened

When I started this series, the additional behind-the-scenes clips were an afterthought. Kind of a 'why not' since I already had the footage and it was minimal work to put them together.

Below are view counts totaled up across all platforms. Interestingly, the behind-the-scenes (red) have consistently out-performed the actual edits (blue), with the behind-the-scenes of my latest trick getting nearly 700k views on its own.

Why it's important

I'm constantly shouting about how artists and professionals should use social media as advertising for their skills and services.

Given how much better my behind-the-scenes clips are performing, it begs the question: are the 'finished videos' actually the appetizer to the behind-the-scenes main course??

As an artist, it's a slightly disorienting approach to social media, but I'm okay with it because the behind-the-scenes videos are telling an important story: I'm really good at filming and editing visual effects tricks.

That's a crucial part of my business. That's what I get hired to do! And that's exactly what I should be reminding the world with regular posts like this.

Each of these videos/behind-the-scenes combos took less than a work day to film, edit, and post. In my world, that's a miniscule amount of time to trade for hundreds of thousands of impressions.

So I think I've accidentally stumbled into an amazing, one-two punch format that I can easily fit into my busy schedule.
